  • Moment of Silence

Practicing the presence

Visit a place where people suffer. It may be a hospital, nursing home, homeless shelter, etc. Visit with the volunteers, staff, and patients/clients. Instead of offering words of comfort, ask them to tell their stories.

As they share their stories or their concerns, listen and merely reflect back what they tell you, encouraging them to share as much as they wish. Ask if it would be appropriate for you to pray with them. If so, then pray. If not, thank them for sharing and ask if there is a way you can serve in the future.

  • Prayers of thanksgiving and petition
  • Journaling or Silent reflection
  • The “Lord’s Prayer”
