Practicing the presence

IN these passages we consider how God has made promises to Abraham and Israel; but what of our promises that we have made to others and to God? Think of promises you have made—especially to God. If you are married think of the promises you made before God to your spouse.  Consider the implicit promise you made in your baptism to be a follower of Jesus.

The point of this exercise is not to produce guilt or shame, but to encourage you to remember and recommit. Is there one particular promise you have failed to accomplish that you can do something about this week? What steps are you willing to take right now?

Prayers

  • Prayers of thanksgiving and petition
  • Journaling or silent reflection
  • “The Lord’s Prayer”
